You purchase this version in the traditional way and then you pay a yearly maintenance fee so that you can upgrade as well as keep the license current.

Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central Essentials users includes the base functionality that most companies would need.
If you would like to have all the functionality that Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central has to offer
you would choose Premium user instead.
